The Cost of Discipleship

You are welcome exactly as you are.

It is not always easy living a life dedicated to God. The prophet Jeremiah speaks of the challenges he experiences among the people. His words were seldom welcomed. If you recall, the community even tried to silence him by throwing him in a well!

Similarly, in our Gospel reading Jesus speaks of the sword of division, even in households. That's quite a text for Father's Day! We will ponder these challenges through remembering the life of Deitrich Bonhoeffer, a German pastor and theologian during the Nazi era. The sermon title comes from one of his books: The Cost of Discipleship.
